Day 18 and 19--Switzerland (Father's Day) and Germany
Day 7 in Switzerland was Father’s Day! Donnie just wanted to go for a hike in the morning, watch “Forrest Gump” with our girls, and have a nice dinner at home before we prepared for the next day’s journey to Germany. We were all ready for a change from Switzerland by this day. Elise’s allergies were in full bloom, and the weather was either sweltering or very wet.
Our long morning walk began with a game of frisbee. It didn’t go super well, but we tried hard.
All the rain made the creek really happy!
These are our only photos from this day. We spent it relaxing and having fun, but not taking pictures. Our girls were emotionally devastated by “Forrest Gump” and it is definitely a one and done for them.
Bubba’s death was especially wrecking. Elise will sometimes randomly turn to me and say, “I can’t believe the part when Bubba said he just wanted to go home! Ugh!”
Can you believe that movie is more than 30 years old? I feel ancient.
The next day, we made our way to Germany. This trip was much less stressful than the one to Switzerland. We returned our rental car and got to the station blissfully early. I did have a horrible customer service experience in a grocery store, but happily it was an isolated incident that has now become a family joke.
Our total train time was about 5 hours, but we had 2 changes, so it was broken up. Not bad at all. Very comfortable. We arrived in Düsseldorf and immediately loved our flat. Wonderful host, great AC, comfortable beds.
Here is our super cute neighborhood! Düsseldorf is just European enough. Diverse with beautiful architecture, but not touristy at all. People living their lives and being incredibly friendly to the bumbling Americans.
