Day 22--Germany (Schloss Benrath palace)

The Schloss Benrath is just minutes from our flat. It is a beautiful pink palace with a lovely water feature out front, and it’s surrounded by a massive garden that locals love to use for biking and leisurely strolls. We love this neighborhood…it feels the most livable of every place we have stayed in Europe so far.

We bought a family pass for the palace and got to walk through it all by ourselves. There were very few people inside. The tricky part was that we had to wear huge slippers over our shoes. This made navigation slippery, but we had only a few close calls and no falls.

After our palace tour, we decided to go on an adventurous walk to find Asian food. We have a few places at home that are absolute staples to our family diet, and the girls have especially been missing this kind of cuisine. We found a place about 20 minutes away and had so much fun exploring along the way. The food and service were excellent. It wasn’t too hot, and we got to sit outside in the shade by ourselves.

After lunch, we tried to go to the pharmacy near our flat to pick up Elise’s prescription from the Telehealth visit we had done the night before. They were closed for a national work holiday, so we got dessert at a cafe across the street. This was such a cool experience. The food was marvelous,  but what I really appreciated was listening to the voices of 2 elderly German couples enjoying themselves with lively conversation.

                                 Beautiful Benrath outside…

Putting on our slippers for the self-guided inside tour

It’s like a mini Versailles. Without the crowding.

Click  watch Elise and me dance in our slippers just because we could:

Part of the gardening museum attached to the palace

Art installation called “Freaks of Nature” in the Garden Museum. Not our favorite, but unique for sure.

This little guy scared me in the palace.

Sheep dog I guess?

Beautiful gardens outside. Honestly it was too hot to spend extra time outside wandering. Maybe later this week in the early morning.

On our walk to lunch

Perfect lunch al fresco.

This is what happens when I don’t utilize Google Translate on the menu. I ordered an iced coffee. To be fair, it was absolutely delectable. Gracelyn’s face says it all.
